Getting Started Students Make a Start

Twelve new students made a start on their course last Friday 22nd February 2008.  "Getting Started on the Computer" is a six week course for beginners or those who need to start from the beginning.  In this first session the students learnt:

  • the names of the four main parts of a computer;
  • how to hold and move the mouse;
  • single-click, double-click, and drag-and-drop with the mouse;
  • typing on the keyboard;
  • the Backspace, Escape, and Enter keys
  • how text wraps at the end of a line.

They all succeeded in completing 2 exercises during the session:

  1. Typing on the Keyboard
  2. Folder Cover for their folder of work.

A couple of students didn't manage to attend the first lesson but are hoping to come along to our Wednesday Drop-In session (10 am to 12 noon every Wednesday) to catch up with the rest of the class.

"It was a really busy morning," said Nick Walton, tutor of the Getting Started course.  "The first session is always hard work for students and tutor.  But everyone did fantastically well and seemed to enjoy themselves as well."
